Tidying Up with Marie Kondo on Netflix

Several people have asked if I’ve seen the new KonMari special on Netflix.

The short answer: YES.

The long answer: I’ve been a little nervous about watching it because I don’t want to spoil what I know.

Hear me out. I know that television is far from reality – especially reality television! I’m sure there will be things done or said that may not be true to the book or the KonMari method.

I’m having such a great journey through the tidying process that I don’t want to spoil it with what may be done for production value or for viewers. I don’t want to borrow from someone else’s inspiration or motivation. My reasons for tidying and minimizing stress this way are more than enough – almost sacred.

That being said, just from the descriptions of each episode, I think the value of the series will be to validate the method and to answer some long-standing questions.

What I hope to see…

1) There are bigger messes than mine that have been tackled thanks to KonMari.

2) Tidying with kids can be a challenge but what better way to raise your children then with an appreciation for the things we have. How does Marie share her method with parents of small kids?

3) What does the KonMari method of folding actually look like?

4) Marie Kondo herself talking through some of the steps. Even from the few times I’ve observed her in videos, she exudes this sense of calm and purpose. I don’t want to be her or any version of her but I do want to emulate her skill for discarding.

I’m a few minutes into episode 1 as we speak and I’ll likely post about the series again but if you’ve watched the series, let me know what you think!
