Saturday Morning

Scrolling through my Instagram feed today, I’m seeing a lot of family beach trip, brunches with besties, perfectly staged (cute mug + fresh book + sunlight streaming in a window) morning “quiet time,” and couples strolling through the farmers market pictures.

But this is me…

I’ve been up since 5:50am and I’m on my third load of laundry. I’m tackling a cleaning list with 17 items including 2 toilets to scrub.

Every toy is out and I haven’t made him put a single thing up. The closet where “old toys” are just creaked opened and I’m stealing a sip of my lukewarm coffee while he’s distracted.

I built a small train city and cooked breakfast for two. I let my son “clean the windows” and then I cleaned the windows. I’ve explained why we can’t tee-tee outside today and what dry shampoo is.

The bottom line? Yes, it’s Saturday and I’ve been momming so hard this morning. I’m really happy too. It’s all about perspective.

In this moment, I’m thankful for a Saturday at home during a busy season. I’m thankful for a son who can enjoy playing by himself for a little bit. I’m enjoying my machine-washable pillows and fragrant fabric softener. I’m enjoying a kid who’s interesting and willing to help with the chores. I’m thankful for a healthy body to tackle all 17…wait, 18 things on my to do list. I’m thankful for this moment.

Things could be worse and they could be better but all I have is this moment.

Whatever you’re doing today, I hope you are enjoying it and living in the present.

  1. As much as I love a beautiful well placed coffee cup picture, I love the honest mom life more. Saturday mornings for me usually consists of mopping the kitchen floor after guzzling my coffee down while P screams in the background. It’s nice see moms share their truth.
